COSTS - A complete explanation . . .
ORGANIZATION & SOURCES of INCOME
B'nai Horin is a 501.c3 religious corporation. Contributions to B'nai Horin our tax deductible. B'nai Horin operates on an annual budget of $125,000. 16% of our income comes from Membership, 75% from High Holy Days and the balance from our Shabbats, Holiday Celebrations and Torah Classes. We have not yet received any grants from outside sources.HIGH HOLY DAY BUDGET & COSTS
Our on site staff serve for free, but receive services and lodging at no charge. Our wonderful musicians and artists receive token honoraria along with services and lodging. Our child care staff receive honoraria along with services and lodging.
In addition, Brandeis Bardin Institute charges us for the facility and the lodging and meals. Plus, we pay SSA Security to provide us with off duty LAPD officers to ensure our safety. And we pay for insurance!
SCHOLARSHIPS
And, we give scholarships to those who cannot afford the cost of High Holy Days. Last year we gave $7,000 in scholarships. This year we are making volunteer opportunities available before High Holy Days for our scholarship recipients and for wonderful members of our community who like to help. For both, we are thankful.WHAT WE GET FOR "FREE"!
REGULAR BUDGET & COSTS
During the year we pay our hosts for the use of their homes and we have administrative costs of running an office, voice mail and regular communications. We have an Event Coordinator and Executive Director who receive nominal fees. It is our goal that each of our programs breaks even or has a small overage! In the end, it is no accident that we break even. (That is, we are "non-profit"!) We try to have enough left over to seed the next year's events and projects and to grow our scholarship funds.
CONTROLLING COSTS
We are committed to keeping our costs as low as possible while producing high quality events and support.COMMUNICATIONS
Our major method of communication is eMail and the Web! Our web site has all the latest information on our events. And, we send everyone an email update bi-weekly. Join us by giving us your email address. Just click "info@bnaihorin.com" at the bottom of this page and send us your name, address, phones and email address. We'll add you to the regular email list.

B'NAI HORIN'S OWN PRAYERBOOK
We have created our own special High Holy Days prayerbook.
Beautiful artwork plus an abundance of unique and inspirational readings, several hundred pages, all in a loose leaf notebook,
make our prayerbook a treasure to be used all year round.

Each person owns their own copy. We are sorry, but due to the cost, $40 each, we cannot make books available for borrowing at services.
DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOURS!
If you register and purchase your prayerbook by Aug 19th, you will receive your prayerbook when you check in to services.
Each year we print a few extra copies for the late registrants.
We may have a few available to sell at the door.
RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP
We invite you to join our community.
Our membership year is from High Holy Days to High Holy Days. The time to renew your membership is now, with your High Holy Days Registration.
The number one reason to join is to make your personal statement of belonging. It means a lot to all of us.
Our membership prices are very low, only $180 for an individual and $270 for families. We can keep our prices low because we do NOT own a facility and our Rabbi doesn't receive a salary.
Members receive special pricing for all our events, including the High Holy Day Services, our monthly Shabbat Morning Services, Holiday Celebrations during the year and our intimate evening Torah study group with Rabbi Stan.
We publish a networking directory of members in November of each year and distribute it to the members. We also have a special rate for advance planning with Mt Sinai Mortuary & Cemetaries.
Children are eligble for Bar & Bat Mitzvah classes and up to $1,000 in scholarships for summer programs in Israel.
B'nai Horin/Children of Freedom, is a dues paying member of ALEPH The Alliance of Jewish Renewal Communities. ALEPH is the organization founded by Rabbi Zalman Schacter-Shalomi, who created the Jewish Renewal Movement. There are Jewish Renewal Communities around the US. Our members receive ALEPH's magazine, New Menorah, on a quarterly basis. Let us encourage you to check out ALEPH's web site.
We, the B'nai Horin community, are committed to living more spiritually enriching lives. Together we learn, share and pray, experiencing our connection with "God" - God, you who are present everywhere in our world - most of all, deep within each of us.
